The magic box did its job properly this weekend and we got to watch the latest Doctor Who in proper HD after J's folks had left on Sunday (we were out for dinner when it aired, otherwise we might've watched it at the time - J's mother likes Doctor Who too).

Nearly had a disaster & couldn't watch Doctor Who coz the magic box failed to record it on Saturday (no idea why not, it just ... didn't) but iPlayer via the PS3 came to the rescue - not as good as watching it on BBC HD, obviously, but not bad quality and only a little stuttery a couple of times after it buffered enough to get going (and J thinks ( Read more... )

Taking a little while to get my head back into Doctor Who space, coz I started the morning with a flap as the chicken I'd bought to roast for lunch neither smelt nor looked nice. So had to make an emergency dash to the co-op for a more pleasant one. But all is well now, lunch is just running late & I'm a tad hungry ;)

At some point last night I thought of the perfect two to three line spoiler-space blurb to go in here, but I rather suspect now it was the product of the bottom of a beer can and has gone the way of all such things (and likely wasn't as witty as I thought it was at the time, even if I could remember it).

I try & put some spoiler space type waffle in this space because I'm pretty sure the lj-cut gets ignored when it's posted through to facebook and I'm struggling this week. Managed to work out the timings on cooking dinner (chicken in tomato sauce with butter - my favourite of the curries in the second Madhur Jaffrey cookery book I have) so that we could both have dinner at a reasonable hour and watch Doctor Who live without me having to jump up and stir stuff every 5 minutes :)

As we were first out then eating on Saturday evening we didn't get to watch this episode when it aired, instead we used it as decompression time after Sunday's drive home and watched it while eating our dinner. Reading around on LJ last night & this morning, and seeing comments from else-web too, it looks like I (and J) are totally out of step with the rest of the people who watched Doctor Who last night. Well, that felt very Doctor Who - secrets lurking beneath (I mean metaphorically, but it works literally too in this case) an otherwise happy looking society. Doctor & companion stumble into trouble, and out of it again.

Doctor Who is pretty much the only thing I make a point of watching live on TV - not timeshifted at all even now we have the tech to do so (yes, we spent years without a way of recording the telly). So yesterday evening was organised around making sure we could sit down infront of the TV at 1820 to watch the new Doctor Who episode.
